Top 10 Business Tips For Remote Work
In order to create the right environment for your staff members, you’ll want to ensure that their workspace setup is appropriate. Not everyone has the space or an office to work from, so many may be working from their bedroom desk space or dining room table.
Hopefully, most have taken themselves off the couch since the pandemic but as a company, it’s important to check in and see whether they need anything from the business in order to make remote working easier.
While offering remote working is helpful, it might not be possible for every employee to do remote work. That’s why it’s important to get an assessment of the employee’s home space to ensure it’s suitable.
If not, you might wish to recommend a local co-working space that they could use and expense back to the company if you’re completely remote as a business. Otherwise, you may want to keep some employees within the office if their home space doesn’t provide a workspace setup that’s appropriate enough.

2. Eliminate distractions
Use site blocking browser extensions or software.
Distractions are something that will happen a lot throughout the working day, whether you’re working from an office or at home. It’s co-workers who come over to your desk for a little natter to your little ones running in and telling you they’ve caused a mess in the living room.
These distractions are somewhat hard to eradicate completely but there are definitely some distractions that you’ll be able to eliminate in order to be more productive in the workspace you’re in.
If you’re working in a separate room or space, consider locking or having a sign on your door when you’re in meetings or doing important work that needs little distraction. Consider blocking certain sites that you have a habit of endlessly browsing and taking regular breaks in order to avoid procrastinating in the first place.

3. Keep communications between coworkers
Align on the comm tools.
When it comes to remote working, it’s crucial to keep up communications. Whether you work a lot independently or you share a lot of your work with other colleagues, having that communication between you and the other coworkers is critical.
As a business, you want to ensure all communications remain as constant as they would be in the workplace. Of course, when you’re working from home, coworkers can’t just pop over to your home desk to talk about a project.
However, it’s beneficial to introduce whatever communication tools are needed, from emails to phone calls to Zoom meetings.
Consider what communication tools are missing from your organization and discuss with your teams what platforms would work best. This might involve a bit of trial and error, but it’s definitely something that’s worth exploring for the benefit of communications across the organization.

4. Streamline monotonous processes
Automate tasks where possible.
There are a lot of business tasks that can fill up the time that your employees have on a daily business. With remote work, you’re likely to recognize where that time is being taken up more specifically.
That’s why it’s important to look at those processes and consider what you might want to streamline with the use of technology. For example, you may have outsourced or had resources internally for a customer support team.
While you might still need them, you could always look at a ChatGPT chat bot for business to take on all of the repetitive questions and queries that are often received by your customers. That leaves your support team to help with more complex issues that may end up helping with user experience in general.

5. Keep in-person social events where possible
IRL meetings should still happen.
Social events are still possible when you have a remote working company. If it’s completely remote, it might take more organization and traveling of workers to get together. However, if you’re looking to introduce remote work as part of a hybrid working business, then don’t forget to keep the in-person social events where possible.
That could be the Christmas party or weekly or monthly quiz nights with your team members who’d be up for going. Being able to offer social events keeps the social side of your workforce available for those who like to meet in person and get that social connection within their job.
While a lot of remote-working companies struggle to meet in person, there are plenty of companies that can still do more in order to make social work events, a regular occurrence.

Have an onboarding process for (remote) employees.
Remote workers who are new to the business or are being put into remote working for the first time, need onboarding properly.
One of the problems that occurs when you don’t onboard your staff properly, is that they have a lack of awareness and knowledge of how things work. When you’re onboarding remote workers, they need to know everything when it comes to setting up their workstations to navigating the online world on behalf of the business.
Proper training is important, so you’ll want to look at putting together the right documents and training days required to onboard your staff effectively.

Make sure your employees have everything they need to be productive.
With remote working, you want to ensure that you have the right tools and equipment required so that your employees can do their jobs with ease. A lot of businesses struggle with remote working because they’ve not given their staff the right tools to make their job productive in the home environment.
A lack of equipment is often a problem for workers working from home too. Have they got a proper ergonomic chair, keyboard, and mouse available? Is their laptop or desktop computer working efficiently? For some, they’re often using computers that are years old and that take ten minutes to load up in the morning.
Try to inject some funding into your IT equipment so that you can provide all your staff members with the equipment required to get their job done and the tasks needed to be done on time every day.
