The self-described largest urban forest in Los Angeles was developed by the Madrid-based architecture company SelgasCano, with whom Silva collaborates on all Second Home locations.

11. The Distilery, Brno, Czech Republic
The Distillery is a co-working space in Brno, Czech Republic, featuring unfinished walls, aging ceiling beams, and a drinks bar in a disused elevator shaft.
AÂ local architecture studio converted a former distillery to create the super creative workspace but decided to leave much of the building unchanged.
Initially run by a Jewish family in the early 19th century, the distillery was largely ruined and set for demolition. But Kogaa, the architect practice which took over the refurbishment, stepped in with the idea of giving the building a new life.
The walls knocked out the ceiling between the building’s second and third floors, forming a double-height space that can be used for lectures, workshops, or other presentations, depending on the requirements of visitors.
The former third floor now acts as a mezzanine level, with some parts fronted by panels of corrugated polycarbonate plastic to create private offices.
As well as preserving the distillery’s metal window frames and floor tiles, the architects have also left several of the walls in their found state. The original elevator cabin now serves as a drinks bar, which opens onto an outdoor courtyard where visitors can sit and relax.
Situated in the heart of Stockholm, Alma Creative Club is a member’s club co-working hybrid. The five-story space was formerly home to Beckman’s School of Design and has been updated by architectural firm Tham & VidegĂĄrd, complete with custom desks, tables, benches, and lamps.Â
Throughout the space, you’ll find dedicated work areas, meeting rooms, a music studio, communal and private dining spaces, a members-only restaurant, and an outdoor terrace. Five membership types are offered depending on your needs, but you can still check it out even if you don’t get a membership by visiting the coffee bar or outpost of design shop Austere on the first floor.
Designed by Fredrik Carlström, Alma meets the working needs of entrepreneurs, teams, and individuals, predominantly in innovative and creative industries.Â
The architects behind the project chose a glass ceiling for their design. The original building forming what is now known as Alma Creative Club dates back to the early 1900s. Its interior was relatively stifling so they changed that by adding an open space in the central courtyard which became more inviting due to all of these new features: transparency from above made it easier for natural light inside; ceilings were lowered making spaces feel less confining while also giving them height value again despite being on a lower ground level than previous buildings nearby.Â
This way the space maintains an airy feel while making it far more suitable for working year-round.
Surely a place for creative souls and progressive minds and not only. Entrepreneurs, innovators, creatives, and thought leaders, who seek intellectual and social nourishment are a perfect match for this place.
Founded in 2017, co-working space Alma is a house where ideas can manifest, grow and build. Transcending the boundaries of gathering places, Alma integrates architecture, product design, music, and art, with cultural programming, food, and drink. The signature design puts human creativity and life-work balance at the center, resulting in comfortable spaces where members feel at home. There’s no separation between life and work when in your element.Â
Alma is a place where you meet, eat, connect and take part in remarkable experiences.Â

Tips for coworking owners to build creative workspaces
There is no doubt that the shared office space industry has reached maturity and the market has consolidated in the past few years, offering different types of spaces for different needs.Â
Because of this, it has become increasingly difficult to differentiate amongst coworking spaces and continue to attract tenants.Â
If you want to enter or survive in the creative segment of the coworking space niche, then you will need to make sure that the space is appealing to your creative target audience like artists, content creators, architects and so on which are looking for specific details in a working environments.
Here are a few practical tips to improve your spaces in case you are looking to bring it more to life.
1. Adapt the lighting Type across the space
The office lighting is probably one of the best ways to create a warm and comfortable work environment. The way it puts things into value and how it gives life to objects and rooms in the space is something which should be highly considered.
Optimizing the lighting scheme for a coworking space is more complicated than you may think. There are many things to consider, all of which will affect mood, productivity, and the overall vibe.
For example, did you think about the conference booth in regards to the kind of light and position of the source? How about the lamp for every hot desk? How would you combine natural light with the artificial one? Here are some interesting tips when it comes to light management:
- Audit the whole space, every workstation, and all common spaces
- Analyse the natural light distribution
- Use warmer light tones
- Have enough desk lamps with of course a warmer light
- Add light dimmers
2. Make sure to include Biophilic style in your design
You want your workspace to feel like home so people can come back often and use it as their “home office”. Biophilic design is one of the latest trends in the coworking industry and it’s a must do if you want to have a pleasent work environment in your business.
Using the principles of Biophilic Design, any work space can be improved with a few simple steps . Work spaces with added elements of nature can increase wellbeing by 15%, productivity by 6% and creativity by 15% (Human Spaces Report 2015).
3. Include lots of Natural materials
A lot of architects find that one of the best things for stimulating and freeing the mind for productively is the use of natural materials.Â
Don’t go over the top with these but a nice spacious office space with some natural woods and some greenery can do wonders for your creative working clients. Did you consider some leather seats or leather coverings for some of the areas of your office?
4. Bring creative objects in the space
Something that I think makes a truly inspired home office setup is being surrounded by the things you love. Seeing  artwork, books, flowers, ornaments, quotes and stationery every day will make sitting at the desk a happy experience.Â
Having inspiring imagery and objects around you will help fuel your motivation, passion and drive.Â
5. Declutter by using storage space
As the saying goes, “A decluttered space, a decluttered mind”. So, my always declutter and organise the space by having smart storage for your clients to keep the spaces tidy.
